GMG updates media and software

GMG is reorganizing its proof media portfolio. Its proof media range is being expanded and reorganized into two lines: ProofMedia Premium for contract proofing and ProofMedia Studio for designers. The range also includes proof media with OBAs (optical brightening agents) that work with the new Fogra 51/52 characterization data.

GMG’s software also works with the new Fogra data. OpenColor, which can be used for managing colour profiles, now gains the ability to calculate profiles for halftone proofs. ColorProof has also been updated to reduce long printer set-up times and alignment phases – even if only CMYK printing is involved.

GMG is also launching a Photoshop plug-in, ColorPin, which has a number of features. For example, it’s capable of MX4 separations, said to be superior to ICC-based solutions, which reduce the need for manual corrections. Photoshop users can apply profiles specifically to individual levels or masked areas. There’s a Pro version that allows users to use their own profiles and to make use of GMG’s InkOptimizer for color reduction. There’s a version specifically for the packaging industry. It should be ready for Drupa.

You can license the articles from Printing and Manufacturing Journal to reproduce in other publications. I generally charge around £150 per article but I’m open to discussing this for each title, particularly for publishers that want to use multiple stories. I can provide high res versions of images for print publications.

I’m used to working with overseas publishers and am registered for VAT with the UK’s HMRC tax authority but obviously won’t charge VAT to companies outside the UK. You can find further details and a licensing form from this page, or just contact me directly here.

Journalism is only really useful if it’s truly independent and this is the only such news source serving the print/ manufacturing sectors.

However, there are costs involved in travelling to cover events, as well as maintaining this site, not to mention the time that it takes to carry out research, check facts and interview people. So if you value this work, then please help to maintain it and keep it free to read.
