X-Rite has given details of a new spectrophotometer, designed mainly for measuring plastics, coatings and textiles. The Ci7860 is a benchtop design with a sphere design.
X-Rite says that it developed this device following feedback from consumer brands worried that visible variations in the color of products and packaging can impact both consumers’ perceptions of quality and retail sales.
The Ci7860 was specifically designed to minimize the contribution of inter-instrument agreement to color variation, ensuring the most accurate and consistent color control. It has an inter-instrument agreement specification of 0.06 average Delta E*, which X-Rite claims is a 25 percent improvement over other sphere spectrophotometers.
It can keep track of all measurements as well as the temperature and humidity conditions under which measurements were taken. There’s a built-in camera to take images of each sample that’s measured.
There’s a choice of four aperture sizes for measuring total transmission of translucent and transparent samples, plus an optional 3.5mm aperture sizes for measuring reflection of opaque materials. It includes calibrated UV to help measure and control optical brighteners used in paper, textiles, plastics and paint and coatings.
Naturally, it conforms with common industry standards including CIE No 15, ASTM D1003, ISO 7724/1.
