W&H updates Vistaflex

The German flexo press manufacturer Windmöller and Hölscher has introduced the Vistaflex II, an updated version of its Vistaflex wide web CI flexo press that it first launched back in 2008. 

Windmöller and Hölscher has added a number of automation features to this wide web CI Vistaflex II flexo press.

The Vistaflex was aimed at established converters that needed a high productivity flexo machine capable of running at speeds of up to 800mpm, with quick job changeovers to maintain 24/7 production. This is largely due to the Vista-Port robotic system where two integrated robots automate the job changeovers. Vista-Port can also prepare up to four further jobs while the press is running.

Over the years W&H has developed a number of technologies for automating different elements of its presses and these have now been incorporated into the new version. Thus the CI drum cleaning system has been improved for better performance with paper and non-woven products. The press gains the Easy-Set and Easy-Reg systems for automated impression and register setting, as well as the TurboClean Advanced E washing and inking system. There’s also the W&H Vision system for web monitoring and defect detection.

In addition, the Ruby IoT platform can be coupled with the W&H Connect 4 Flow to create a direct link between a customer’s ERP system and the press, which allows jobs data to be sent remotely for automated smart job queueing and optimized workflow. This works with the Vista-Port robotic system so that the cylinders and sleeves can be prepared in advance and changed automatically as needed. 

There’s also a new winder with an integrated slitting module, the Filmatic II C winder, which can cope with extremely sensitive substrates that can be difficult to wind, such as breathable films and non-wovens, allowing these to be cut into very small ups and wound with straight edges. 

Dr. Holger Kreilkamp, Team Leader Product Management, explained: “Automation and assistance systems are making a dramatic difference in production efficiency, by shortening changeover times, minimizing waste, and making the process more straight-forward and easier for press operators. With this top of mind, we integrated W&H systems directly into the Vistaflex II.”

There are currently over 100 of the original Vistaflex presses are being used by customers in Europe, North America, and Asia, printing on paper and film as well as for special products from the hygiene sector such as non- wovens or back sheet films. 

Hermann Veismann, General Manager for Printing and Finishing at Windmöller and Hölscher, commented: “When we started conceptualizing how and what to update on the Vistaflex, we realised, what an exceptional press it still is well over a decade after its inception. To make the press even better for our customers, who run these machines extremely hard over prolonged periods of time, we started with improving the bearing system to increase stability and print quality.” 

The Vistaflex II is available in two widths, with the L model having a print width of 1.3 to 1.65m and eight or ten colour decks, while the X model has a print width of 2 to 2.2m with eight colour decks. Both have a maximum repeat of 1.25m and a top speed of 800 mpm. You can find further details from wh.group.
