Ricoh announces PA6 3D print material

Ricoh’s Additive Manufacturing division has introduced a new powder material for its selective laser sintering 3D printing process, having produced and verified its final material qualification part last month.

Ricoh introduces a new PA6 material for SLS 3D printing.

The new PA6 powder has been developed at Ricoh’s state-of-the-art 3D printing facility in Telford, in the UK. It is an unfilled Nylon 6 material said to offer properties similar to those of injection moulded Nylon 6 parts. It’s suitable for producing parts where mechanical strength and heat stability are key requirements, with Ricoh mainly targeting the automotive sector.

Ricoh says that it has tested parts produced with its PA6 material to a comprehensive list of ISO standards, including ISO 527, ISO 178 and ISO 179, and that it can offer some resistance to oil and fluids, even at high temperature. It has a melting temperature of 200oC and a heat deflection temperature (0.45Mpa) of 192oC. Ricoh also offers various post-processing options with PA6 including joining, smoothing and dyeing. 

Enrico Gallino, materials specialist at Ricoh, commented:“If you  need parts with superior strength, heat and chemical resistance, as well as complex geometries, then we have the answer. PA6 is the ideal solution for interior and exterior automotive components, under-bonnet automotive parts, electrical connectors and functional prototypes.”
