ASP Flexibles, which is part of the Americk Packaging Group, is to move from its Haydock base in Merseyside to a new site in Wigan.
The 7,400 sqm facility is over three times the size of the existing location, allowing ASP Flexibles to also build a brand new state of the art laboratory. The company will expand its production capacity with the installation of a new 1500mm wide F&K 8+1 colour press capable of High Definition Flexo print quality and automatic registration for fast change overs. It is anticipated the combined investment of £7m will increase capacity to 175m linear metres a year from this spring.
ASP Flexibles mainly produces flexible packaging for all varieties of ambient, fresh and perishable goods. It’s also developed NaturSense, an in-pack sensor developed to monitor true environmental conditions, such as humidity, temperature and concentration of various gases. It will be demonstrated at the Fruit Logistica Trade Show in Berlin, which opens on the 3rd February.
Steve Ellis, managing director of ASP Flexibles, says that the company’s investment in the new facility will lead to further growth, noting: “Servicing the fresh produce market demands flexibility, the highest degree of customer service, technical innovation and a thorough understanding of the unique demands of this market.”
