Mimaki is to launch the second generation of its UJF3042 and 6042 printers at this week’s Viscom Paris show. These are desktop UV printers, designed primarily for industrial manufacturing.
The new Mark II models are said to be 20 percent faster than the older machines, with the UJF-3042 MkII being capable of 2.48 sq m/hour and the UJF-6042 MkII having a maximum speed of 3.52 sq m/hour.
The print table is now fully enclosed to keep dust out of the prints. The print table itself now moves during printing, which cuts down on the vibration transmitted to the print and should lead to more precise dot placement, which should in turn lead to better quality images. These models also gain automatic detection and cleaning of clogged nozzles.
Mimaki has also developed several inksets for these machines, optimized for particular uses. Thus there is an LUS-120 inkset, which can stretch up to 170 percent without cracking when pressed or folded, designed for printing on soft material surfaces such as membrane switches or smartphone wallet cases.
On the other hand, the LH-100 inks cure to a very tough finish, that can withstand high levels of abrasion but are best used on rigid substrates. These inks can also be used with Mimaki’s PR-200 inkjet primer for printing on glass, metal and resins, which has traditionally been difficult for UV-curable inks. Mimaki also offers a clear varnish ink, Clear Control, which can be used for highlighting or even embossing.
Mimaki has also said that it will shortly release a new LUS-150 inkset, which boasts good adhesion properties, and is suitable for indoor signs, trophies and other acrylic items.
The new Mark II models will replace the older machines.
