Formlabs has announced two new 3D printers, the Form 3 and the larger Form 3L, both of which use Formlabs’ new Low Force approach to Stereolithography.
This process uses a flexible tank to reduce the forces of the peel process, leading to improved surface finish and detail, and linear illumination to deliver accurate, repeatable parts.
The Form 3 uses a 250mW laser and has an XY resolution of 25 microns, producing layers from 25 to 300 microns thick. It has a build size of 145 x 145 x 185mm.
The 3L is just a larger version of the Form 3, but fitted with two Light Processing Units to double the laser power. It has five times the build volume for printing large parts at 335 x 200 x 300mm.
Formlabs has also announced a new material, Draft Resin, which prints at 300 microns layer lines and is 3-4X faster than other standard resins, making it ideal for rapid prototyping. This costs £120 per litre.
The Form 3 printers are due to ship in July in Europe and North America, though you can order the printers now from the www.formlabs.com website. The Form 3 costs £2900, which includes the printer plus one resin tank, one build platform and one finish kit. There’s also a bundle on offer that adds both the Form Wash and Form Cure finishing units plus a standard resin and an extended warranty for £5130, at time of writing.
The Form 3L is not due to ship until Q4 this year and prices start at £8000.
