Fish and chip wrappers

I was struck by a recent headline in a newspaper that proclaimed ‘Labour to cut benefits for young jobless’. This is obviously not true, since the Labour party is not in power and not able to enact policy.
But perhaps we should ask, is this any way to sell newspapers? Surely the point of a newspaper is to provide a good level of information, with some interpretation and explanation of that information. It’s difficult to see how meaningless headlines will persuade potential readers to invest time and money in said newspaper.
But this is part of a wider argument about the media – are newspapers, magazines, and websites like this one, for entertainment or information?

You can license the articles from Printing and Manufacturing Journal to reproduce in other publications. I generally charge around £150 per article but I’m open to discussing this for each title, particularly for publishers that want to use multiple stories. I can provide high res versions of images for print publications.

I’m used to working with overseas publishers and am registered for VAT with the UK’s HMRC tax authority but obviously won’t charge VAT to companies outside the UK. You can find further details and a licensing form from this page, or just contact me directly here.
