HP revamps Indigo line-up

Earlier this week I wrote about two new Indigo presses, the series 5 100K sheetfed and the series 6 V12 label press. But HP has also announced eight other new presses, though these are updates to existing models, and in most cases, relatively minor updates. I’ll cover the new machines first before turning to the significance of these announcements.

HP updates Indigo presses and PrintOS

HP has added a new FM screening mode to its Indigo 12000HD press. The Indigo HDFM mode places ink dots in random-like distribution, increasing the accuracy of ink dot placement, and eliminating the appearance of rosette patterns and moiré. This leads to sharpness in highly detailed images and halftone text applications. This is unlikely to be rolled out to other Indigo presses because it requires the higher resolution of the 12000HD. HP has announced two new additions to its Indigo range of wet toner printers. There’s a new 7800 sheetfed model, which has a number of new features including the ability to print directly on synthetic substrates and plastic cards, and improved new colour management through a new in-line spectrophotometer.
