Stratasys adds new materials for J750

Stratasys has announced two new materials – the rubber-like PolyJet Agilus30 and a Digital ABS Plus engineering-grade material – for use with its J750 colour 3D printer. This device is mainly used for producing rapid prototypes and some tooling applications.

Agilus30 material was used to produce these soft, rubber-like ear buds and moulded interior for ideal look, feel and functional testing; solid case features carbon fiber-like texture in Vero materials. All pieces 3D printed on the Stratasys J750 full color, multi-material 3D printing solution.

Agilus30 is a durable, flexible PolyJet photopolymer material with enhanced tear resistance. It’s said to be suitable for advanced design verification and functional performance testing. Stratasys claims that it can stand up to repeated flexing and bending and can accurately simulate the look, feel and function of things like seals, gaskets and living hinges. The surface texture is said to have been improved for a more realistic rubber-like feel.

McLaren Racing has been using Agilus30 to simulate the installation and performance of rubber-like parts in its high performance vehicles and support equipment. Neil Oately, head of McLaren’s Design and Development, explained: “The superior tear resistance of the Agilus30 enables us to include highly flexible articulated interconnections within unit construction rigid mountings which we could not do previously.”

The second material is Digital ABS Plus, which can be used to produce a range of items such as strong functional prototypes and manufacturing tools as well as moulds, including injection moulds. It can cope with high- or low-temperature use and can simulate a range of durable production plastics, including standard ABS, with an enhanced toughness and Izod Notched Impact (90 – 115J/m, 1.69 – 2.15 ft lb/inch).   

Zehavit Reisin, vice president for Stratasys’ Rapid Prototyping Solutions Business Unit, commented: “Adding these materials with advanced performance increases the system’s overall versatility, enabling designers and engineers to more accurately evaluate the viability of their designs well before production.”
