New installations at Imacx, Duma Druck, VGL and Se-Da

Roundup of some of the recent installation stories: Last year, Imacx, based in Lisbon, Portugal, installed an Onset X1, a high volume wide format printer manufactured by Inca Digital but sold by Fujifilm. Imacx, founded in 1998, specialises in producing large format, point-of-sale retail signage and displays.

CEO Raphael Giovanella explains: “We owned an Onset S20 for a number of years and it was a very good and dependable machine, so the decision to invest in an Onset X1 was logical for us. When we first became aware of it, it wasn’t just the quality of print produced that stood out – the competitive price point was an added bonus, and we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to invest. Since upgrading to the Onset X1, the quality we have been able to achieve and the productivity of our business has increased significantly.”

He adds: “Initially, we were impacted quite heavily by Covid-19 and we had to close temporarily during the lockdown period. However, from the middle of 2020 onwards, and with the aid of the Onset X1, things slowly started to improve. This was partly due to a large amount of our print production projects being oriented around safety standards in shopping malls. The Onset X1 has been extremely influential in helping us to maintain our customer base as well as obtain new business.”

Offset printer Duma Druck, based in Stuttgart, Germany, bought its first digital press, a Xeikon SX30000, in order to be able to produce short runs faster and more efficiently, as well as to expand its service portfolio with customised and personalised print products. The company specialises in the production of leaflets, booklets and labels with customers from industry, food production and food retail, as well as agencies.

Volker Lück, joint Managing Director at Duma Druck GmbH, states: “We studied the market carefully before we selected Xeikon’s SX30000 press. We were immediately impressed with the machine’s capabilities. The key advantages for our business are the variety of material options the press can handle and the high levels of print quality it can deliver. Being able to maintain our high standards of quality products with the new machine is essential and with a full order book at present, Xeikon’s superior digital press gives us the opportunity to add value for our customers.” 

Vinyl Graphics Ltd, better known as VGL, a wide format printer based in Reading, UK, has installed a Durst Rhotex 325 to increase capacity and speed in order to cope with changing market demands. VGL takes on a wide range of work including retail, outdoor and transport signage as well as producing architectural features. The Rhotex 325 can print both direct to textile or to transfer papers for dye sublimation. 

Mark Elen, VGL’s production director, explained: “The Durst Rho 325 literally eats the volumes and is 3-4 times faster than the machines it will replace. Speed is really important when you have multiple clients all wanting their jobs straight away. It’s apparent from this pandemic, more than ever you need to be extremely agile. It’s an even more competitive market where, for example, we get asked by internationally-renowned brands to change job specifications at a moment’s notice. And often you won’t know whether it’s 300 or 3,000 square meters to be printed. The Durst machines are absolutely superb and extremely reliable.”

The Polish company Se-Da, based in Lidzark, has invested in a Kornit Presto S direct to fabric printer. Se-Da is a family owned business with around 200 staff that supplies high-quality textiles such as curtains, bedsheets, bathrobes, towels and bathroom rugs to hotels, restaurants, and healthcare facilities, as well as to consumers. 

Damian Marchlewicz, CEO at Se-Da, explained: “As the demands of our customers grew, we found Kornit Presto S was the best all-around product we could find for high-quality printing to many different fabrics, which gives us great flexibility.” He added: “The fact that pre- and post-treatment is completely inline makes it possible to print very quickly, keeping costs low while ensuring the production process is environmentally-friendly as no water is used during the entire production process.”
