Inkcups has announced a new device, the Cobalt Pro, for etching plates for pad printing as well as engraving a variety of substrates such as plastic and wood. As such, it should appeal to smaller companies looking for a dual-purpose device.
This is the third machine in the Cobalt series and sits alongside the Cobalt 2000, for making DuraLaze pad printing plates, and the Cobalt One Fiber laser, a compact device for laser etching plates
The CobaltPro is fitted with a 40 watt ceramic core laser. It has an etching area of 440mm x 620mm and can produce large and bold high-resolution images of up to 1,500 dpi on the largest variety plates or on multiple plates at once. It uses a closed-loop DC servo motor that should provide a high degree of continuous shaft power at higher speeds as well as greater accuracy (0.254 mm or 0.1%) due to the continuous movement, rather than constant starting and stopping.
There’s an AutoFocus operations control to adjust the Cobalt Pro to the precise focal point on the engraving area for accurate results. It also features a four-line LCD display panel with information such as the total working time, laser power and engraving speeds. It will work with DuraLaze, CrystaLaze, Laser Aqua, Laser Red, and Laser Orange plate materials
Travis Griffin, pad printing technical sales manager at Inkcups, commented: “The Cobalt Pro is the best state-of-the-art machine for big and small businesses in need of a faster, more robust laser plate-maker and etching machine to create high-quality, eye-catching images on products.”
The Cobalt Pro is available from August in the UK and Europe with list prices starting from £22,000. You can find further details from inkcups.com.
