Heidelberg to sell PURe inks

Heidelberg is now selling the PURe range of inks alongside its Saphira consumables to its European customers. The PURe group is a spin-off of Epple Druckfarben AG and has developed its ink system with sustainability in mind.

Heidelberg is to sell the PURe range of highly sustainable offset ink.

Thus the ink is mineral oil free, nor does it contain palm, coconut or soy oils, which are often blamed for the deforestation of rain forests. The binding agents are completely based on renewable resources, without any further chemical modifications and syntheses. There are no toxic ingredients such as photo initiators, metal dryers, antioxidants or microplastics, with the majority of the ingredients derived from renewable raw materials without further chemical modification or synthesis. 

The ink is odour-free, has a high abrasion resistance and is said to be highly deinkable. The ink film is formed from the absorption of fluid components and a chemical reaction on the substrate, leading to very fast drying so that jobs can be finished substantially faster and more efficiently. 

The PURe group says that these inks are suitable for printing on food packaging materials as well as on commercial print products. There’s a complete set of colours including metallic inks and varnishes. Beside the ink, there is also a range of pressroom consumables including a fountain solution, cleaning agent and washing agent. 

The PURe ink meets the criteria of all major eco-labels including EU Ecolabel, Nordic Ecolabelling, Austrian Ecolabel UZ24, Blauer Engel UZ195) and has received a C2C platinum Certified Material Health Certificate. 

In order to help users achieve a more holistic approach to sustainability, Heidelberg is offering its customers an individual implementation and transition service for the application of PURe inks. Amongst others Heidelberg can also offer job and system analysis, operator and sales trainings in order to enable the customer to successfully commercialize the environmental advantages of PURe inks.

Hans Huyghe, head of Product Management Consumables at Heidelberg, explained: “Heidelberg is happy to extend its portfolio with low-migration inks from PURe, which combine the advantages of conventional and UV drying inks. With our project approach, we enable our customers to integrate PURe as a system as part of their long term sustainability strategy.”
