Xerox has updated its flagship range of digital toner presses with the announcement of a new iGen 5. It’s available in several different versions running from 90ppm up to 150ppm, with each one capable of being upgraded to the higher speeds.
There’s also an optional fifth colour unit so that the press should be able to match a larger gamut of Pantone colours as well as some spot colours. There’s a choice of orange, green or blue toners to be used in the fifth unit. Hopefully the front ends will include some kind of job planning so that jobs that use the same fifth colour can be queued up together.
It also includes a variety of colour matching, job setup and quality control automation tools, all designed to keep the press running consistently.
Naturally, there’s a choice of an EFI Fiery or Xerox FreeFlow Print Server to automate the workflow process from order to finish. There’s also an established range of inline finishing solutions, including Xerox IntegratedPLUS Finishing and Dual Mode Sheet Feeder to manage jobs with diverse finishing requirements.
The fastest 150ppm machine is available now, with the slower models to follow in September. The iGen 5 150 4-colour base configuration will have a U.S. list price starting at $752,000, roughly £486,000, and the iGen 5 150 5-color base configuration will have a U.S. list price starting at $849,000, or around £550,000.
