Xeikon upgrades front end

Xeikon has released v5 of its X800 software. It allows more jobs to be processed faster with minimal human intervention, which improves accuracy, ensures repeatability and reduces errors, resulting in industry-leading productivity.

Jeroen Van Bauwel, Xeikon’s Director Product Management says: “We have created the X-800 5.0 with our four cornerstones of development in mind – improvements in color quality, moving closer to green button printing, helping facilitate management and integration with the customer’s environment. We always look to provide additional ways to positively impact these areas.”

Amongst the new features is the ColorForecast tool that allows custom or brand colours to be reproduced correctly regardless of the final substrate. It can test and verify if the color will match output, reducing the need to print and test colours.

Xeikon has also redesigned the calibration process so that its presses get up to quality faster. The front end will now provide immediate operator feedback on the engine’s status.

There’s a new shuffle imposition that allows seamless mixed label production. This in turn allows end-users to be more creative with promotional campaigns by enabling the easy combination of designs and variable information.

This software also improves the use of inline finishing, with Xeikon claiming that it can reduce set up waste from 17 percent to 12 percent through integration with an MIS, which can lead to an overall reduction in waste of 30 percent.

Xeikon X-800 5.0 will be released at the beginning of 2017 and will be made available for all MyPress-based engines.

You can license the articles from Printing and Manufacturing Journal to reproduce in other publications. I generally charge around £150 per article but I’m open to discussing this for each title, particularly for publishers that want to use multiple stories. I can provide high res versions of images for print publications.

I’m used to working with overseas publishers and am registered for VAT with the UK’s HMRC tax authority but obviously won’t charge VAT to companies outside the UK. You can find further details and a licensing form from this page, or just contact me directly here.
