X-Rite is to launch a new version of its i1iSis range of automated chart readers. The new i1iSis 2 and i1iSis 2 XL use i1 spectral technology to accommodate M0, M1 and M2 measurement illumination conditions which makes for more accurate measuring of the optically brightened substrates that are now commonly used in grand format, premedia and digital press applications.
The biggest single nuisance in reading colour charts is the time consuming business of having to scan the many different patches that make up these charts. But the i1iSis devices automate this process, making them extremely useful in prepress and graphic arts production. The standard i1iSis 2 can read up to 1,500 patches on an A4 sheet in eight minutes, while the XL version can get through 2500 patches on an A3 sheet in ten minutes.
They have built-in vision systems that are reasonably forgiving as to how charts are aligned as they are fed into the system, automatically correcting for misalignment. They can also read barcodes to identify charts. They work with i1Profiler software and can handle a variety of inks and substrates in any viewing condition.
