Mimaki is planning to introduce a new addition to its UJF range of industrial flatbed printers at next month’s Fespa Hamburg show. The new UJF-3042MkII EX is based on the existing 3042 model but adds a fourth print head and the ability to hold eight ink bottles.
The result is that it’s now possible to place primer for strong ink adhesion, white ink for high print opacity, full colour CMYK printing and a clear print surface treatment, all in one operation.
In addition, this new model gains a status indication lamp to quickly check the status of the printer, a vacuum table to fix the print substrate and an emergency switch to immediately stop the machine operation. It also has automatic detection and cleaning of clogged nozzles and the ability to map around blocked nozzles.
It uses Mimaki’s PR-200 primer, which can be used on resin, glass and metal materials. The advantage of a jettable primer is that it only places the primer exactly where it’s needed for each ink dot so that the material retains its texture after printing. The clear ink can add glossy or matte effects to give texture and depth to prints. It can be laid down in multiple layers for an embossed effect and can be used with Mimaki’s texture library as part of the Mimaki RasterLink6 RIP software.
