Forget me not

Forget me not
I find the European Court of Justice’s recent decision that people should have the right to control their profiles, that is to have companies like Google ‘forget’ about past embarrassments, somewhat troubling. Surely it would be better to take responsibility for our actions, rather than sweep them under the carpet?
But the Internet’s ability to highlight and magnify minor indiscretions means that we should have some way of putting these things into context. After all, I don’t want my follies broadcast around the globe, but I’m not running for office and I certainly don’t want to elect a political leader with an unpleasant (but hidden) history.
