Global Graphics and the price of success

Two weeks ago I reported on the proposed acquisition of Global Graphics by Congra Software and I think this is worth a more detailed look if only to see some of the thinking that goes behind acquisitions like this.

Global Graphics has developed screening tools to counter problems such as mottling, sometimes called the orange peel effect, which occurs when the ink film cracks as it dries or cures.

Ricoh to acquire LAC inkjet

Ricoh is set to buy LAC Corporation, which is said to have unique inkjet technology that supports printing on three-dimensional surfaces. HP updates Indigo presses and PrintOS

HP has added a new FM screening mode to its Indigo 12000HD press. The Indigo HDFM mode places ink dots in random-like distribution, increasing the accuracy of ink dot placement, and eliminating the appearance of rosette patterns and moiré. This leads to sharpness in highly detailed images and halftone text applications. This is unlikely to be rolled out to other Indigo presses because it requires the higher resolution of the 12000HD.
